Electrical Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to perform systems design and support the implementation of electric auxiliaries, interconnection, services, and specialties. This role involves engaging with project teams and subject matter experts to understand operability needs, interfaces, and requirements. The engineer will review P&ID diagrams, system descriptions, and system architecture to derive electric service needs, and perform direct design and review activities for electrical deliverables.
Responsibilities
Design and review electrical deliverables including single lines, calculations, schematics, load lists, panel boards, MCC schedules, site grounding, and meter & relay.
Design the layout of distribution wiring, cable conduit, cable raceway, and signal wiring in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
Develop operational philosophy for the integration of electrical equipment for systems commissioning, startup, normal operations, and maintenance activities.
Collaborate in planning, scheduling, and organizing detailed phases of engineering work.
Provide technical oversight and direction for internal or external design teams.
Facilitate and assist in assessing customer needs and capturing electrical system requirements for nuclear generating stations.
Execute electrical engineering assignments with clear and specified objectives using conventional specifications and Interface Control Documents.
Recommend system design alterations and enhancements to improve product quality and procedures.
Lead reviews and presentations for internal and customer design reviews regarding electrical system design.
Provide insights into typical plant response to electrical transients, grid conditions, extreme weather events, and standard dispatch actions.
Work with design programs including SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant 3D, SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant Review, AutoCAD, ETAP, and SKM.
Size electrical distribution equipment and cabling.
Work with industrial motors and motor drives.
Facilitate and assist in systems engineering with interface management and requirements decomposition.
Establish high voltage interconnections with utility partners.
Work with protective relaying and metering.
Directly interface with other design/system engineers.
Prepare and review design packages and design calculations for delivery to clients.
Develop equipment specifications and data sheets.
Collaborate in the preparation of cost estimates and quantity take-off.
Collaborate in project planning and scheduling.
Understand NEC codes and regulations related to power generation or power distribution.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
10 years of experience in Electrical and/or Control System Design/operation/implementation.
Understanding of electrical engineering codes and safety standards.
Experience with high or medium voltage applications.
Experience in designing systems for power generation or power distribution.
Customer-facing experience with the capability to provide updates through presentations and technical follow-up.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Master's degree can substitute for 2 years of work experience.
PhD can substitute for 3 years of work experience.
Experience in the nuclear industry is a plus but not required.
Work Environment
This role is based in an office environment. The team is growing and is involved in developing first-of-its-kind technology, offering an exciting and dynamic work atmosphere. The company aims to expand to over 400 people by 2025.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $58.00 - $77.00/hr.
