General Description:
Boston Public Schools (BPS) seeks a talented, detail-oriented and versatile problem-solver to contribute to advancing the work and priorities of the Boston School Committee. This role coordinates various priorities to support the operation and effectiveness of the Boston School Committee. The Coordinator, Boston School Committee provides related administrative office support for the Office of the School Committee.
Responsibilities:
Coordination of Boston School Committee Priorities :
Support the School Committee and School Committee Task Forces; schedule meetings, distribute materials, take minutes, manage webinars, coordinate interpretation and translation services, and all the communication between the members and the public.
Administrative Support for the Office of the School Committee:
Organize School Committee Meetings, Sub-Committee Meetings, Task Force Meetings and Community Meetings.
Coordinate and provide logistical support in the development of School Committee materials.
Organization of materials for distribution to School Committee members.
Coordinates and manages translations and interpretation requests to ensure non-English-speaking constituents have access to all School Committee meeting materials in nine languages.
Works closely with district staff to ensure equitable public access to School Committee business.
Update and maintain the Boston School Committee website by uploading documents, creating meeting posts, and ensuring content is up to date.
Maintain and update the office calendar, ensuring all meetings, events, and deadlines are accurately scheduled.
Maintain databases to compile Boston School Committee historical data and policies approved by the School Committee.
Document questions and comments raised by School Committee members during meetings and otherwise for follow-up and record-keeping.
Oversee and manage virtual meetings via Zoom, including setting up webinars, and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
Act as liaison between Office of Instructional & Information Technology (OIIT) and School Committee for technical questions.
Answers parents and other constituents' questions and comments about BPS Policies and Procedures.
Serve as an Office Manager.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Executive Secretary and the School Committee Members.
Job Requirements:
Minimum 5 years of business or educational environment experience.
Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities successfully.
Detail-oriented, independent worker who can take the lead and demonstrate initiative with a strong ability to identify, analyze and effectively resolve challenges
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software applications and technologies as needed.
Ability to work as a team member, collaborate with BPS Staff, parents and other constituents.
Excellent communication skills. Strong ability to accurately respond to questions and comments concerning policies and procedures and other complex issues
Proficient in computer skills, including the Google Drive suite.
This position requires flexible hours, including frequent evenings and weekends.
BA/BS in a related field.
Bilingual skills are strongly preferred (including Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean, Somali, Chinese, or Vietnamese).
Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
This position is subject to the City of Boston residency ordinance.
Terms: Managerial, B22.
