Job Summary
Responsible for initiating, planning, implementing and evaluating the distribution region's public affairs programs. Develop communications strategies for internal and external region initiatives, working with communications consultants to drive strategic performance-based communications. Understand best practice in strategic communications and research techniques in order to assess the effectiveness of communications. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and presents ideas clearly. Work collaboratively across functions, levels and departments, counseling field management. Able to adjust to multiple demands and conflicting priorities and committed to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Go beyond what is expected, seizes opportunities and take appropriate risks to achieve goals and get results. Principal elements include media relations, employee and customer communication, community and educational programs, special communications, projects and events.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide counsel with respect to communication planning and implementation regarding region operations. Dedicated and committed to the customer priorities to develop and implement region communications goals and plans to support region objectives.
Understand the company, its products, services, and business direction to develop multi-media communications strategies that include problem solving, and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of region/local communication.
Serve as primary spokesperson on region issues, preparing news releases, speeches, talking points, and presentations to support external and internal requirements.
Actively listen to understand other's view points and needs to create and maintain professional working relationships with news media while monitoring regional issues that impact AEP.
Serves as liaison between Director CC Wires LOB, field communications consultants and field community relations managers regarding public relations matters and activities, and implementation of performance based communications.
Coordinate local and region advertising, and community involvement and educational activities.
Assess and provide communications skills and media training for region management, supervisors and team leaders.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
BA, BS degree in communications, journalism. 7+ years experience in corporate public relations/communications.
Thorough knowledge of public affairs and communications disciplines.
Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, as well as organization, negotiation, presentation and management skills.
