SAIC is currently seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Hardware/Electrical Engineer Intern to join our Hardware Service team in Sterling, VA to begin an exciting, fulfilling, and challenging career with SAIC.
Responsible for assisting the Hardware Service team in assemblies, equipment repair, and quality control of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products and computer based integrated systems. Will be expected to learn new skills, engage in hands-on projects, and contribute to team processes with ideas, improvements, and data that lead the team to accomplish production goals.
This is a paid internship opportunity
Primary responsibilities include supporting ITI Engineers with:
Daily assembly of computer hardware equipment.
Testing COTS parts and systems to ensure they work properly.
Identify and isolate defects through logical troubleshooting.
Deconstruct existing systems for parts analysis and repair.
Equipment housing and mounting design and prototyping
Design and test circuits and other electronic components.
Test execution and refine processes.
Integrate components into system design.
Evaluate the effectiveness of design and contribute to revisions.
Estimate reliability and safety factors.
Create Bill of Materials (BOM)
Use computers extensively to produce and analyze designs.
Generate specifications for parts.
Contribute to efficiency of processes.
Opportunity to learn soldering and circuit board rework
Analyze information and recommend appropriate hardware
Specify power supply requirements and configuration.
Record data for analysis of system capabilities.
Qualifications
Required:
In process BS or BSE (Bachelor's of Science in Engineering) degree in a related field (electrical, mechanical, systems, or similar); Rising Junior or Rising Senior
Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS public trust, Citizenship Required
Experience with computer based systems and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) equipment
Proficient with power tools Proficient following assembly instructions
Be able to work in laboratory, machine shop, workbench, and office spaces with metal, plastics, and electronics
Excellent troubleshooting and resolution skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in team environments across a diverse set of projects with multiple stakeholders
Familiarity with testing practices and procedures
Familiarity with a multimeter
Work on-site at the Sterling, VA Location
Preferred Candidate would have one or more skills bellow:
3D Printing experience such as UltiMaker Cura
CAD modeling experience such as Solidworks or CREO
Familiarity with schematics/build documentation
Familiarity with Python
Familiarity with PCB and/or PCB Design: KiCad
