The Data Center Project Manager is responsible for developing and managing high-level and low-level project plans, budgets, and execution strategies for data center projects. This role involves overseeing all aspects of project coordination, resource management, vendor negotiations, and ensuring timely delivery of IT-related deliverables. The candidate must tailor existing best practices for project and operational management while maintaining effective communication with internal IT teams, legal teams, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-level and low-level project plans and budgets for data center projects and components.
- Manage, coordinate, and execute assigned tasks and resources to ensure project success.
- Tailor existing best practices for project and operational management based on project needs.
- Communicate project status updates to IT project teams, IT departments, and key stakeholders.
- Coordinate all project activities between internal teams, Engineering Design Team, General Contractors, and external vendors.
- Work with internal sourcing and legal teams to negotiate lease terms.
- Oversee and execute the RFP process to secure new vendors for project execution.
- Manage construction of newly built-out sites, either directly or through a general contractor.
- Ensure proper vendor management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and ensure the timely delivery of all IT-related deliverables.
- Maintain and modify the project SharePoint site for documentation and information management.
- Conduct local travel to data centers and offices regularly, with occasional out-of-area travel as required.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in data center project management.
- 3+ years of experience in project coordination and task management.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple sites and projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and safety standards.
- Experience in developing technical specifications and project documentation.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Project.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in an engineering discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of data center technology and service management.
- Experience with structured cabling systems and data center best practices.
- Understanding of logistics and vendor management in data center environments.
