Job Overview:
Attend nursing station and perform clerical duties, reception duties, and requisition supplies, equipment and services as directed.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Ability to perform all competencies of the position is required for employment in the position
Preferred:
Previous experience in a hospital office setting preferred
Bilingual English/Spanish

Essential Functions:
Demonstrates knowledge of the hospital s accepted abbreviations and medical terminology
Files diagnostic results and patient record reports on a timely basis, removing duplicate copies
Performs the clerical activities associated with the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, including copying medical records when the Medical Records Department is closed
Maintains knowledge of the use of forms and paper requisitions in case of computer downtime
Participates in on going staff development
Notifies Registered Nurse of STAT orders
Calls consultations as per physician s orders if not done so already by the physician
Files admission, discharge, and transfer medical records in correct sequence
Performs the clerical activities associated with the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, including copying medical records when the Medical Records Department is closed
Demonstrates the ability to use the clinical information system with minimal assistance
Ensures that all forms in patient s medical record are labeled with the correct patient identification
Prepares patient charts using all necessary forms
Condenses patient records according to the medical record policy and procedure
Performs other duties as requested
Arranges transportation of patient to other health care facilities in collaboration with the Charge Nurse / Nurse Manager
Accurately transcribes orders from the physician order form to the Clinical Information System
Signs off orders upon completion of all transcriptions
Notifies the Registered Nurse to verify the accuracy of all transcriptions
Assures that all physician orders for medication have been faxed to the pharmacy
Review discharge patient records for completeness and communicates deficiencies to Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager
Places completed discharge chart in appropriate area for messenger pick-up
Acts as a resource person for computer order entry
Adds new forms and additional sheets to patient medical records as needed
Communicates all messages received in the absence of requested personnel
Files computerized printouts of transcribed orders for RN verification
Identifies STAT orders as a priority and transcribes immediately
