Overview
Are you interested in working to ensure child travel safely on
Vermont\'s roadways? The Child Passenger Safety Coordinator sits within
the Division of Emergency Preparedness, Response and Injury
Prevention\'s Injury Prevention Unit, focused on pediatric injury
prevention, public health, and highway safety.
Position is responsible for the oversight, implementation,
administration, coordination, and evaluation of the child passenger
safety program. The Child Passenger Safety program will work to reduce
injuries and fatalities of child passenger safety including educating
caregivers and child serving organizations on the proper use of child
passenger devices (car seats and booster seats).
Duties include planning assessments, coordinating plan activities and
implementation, monitoring, grant reporting and evaluation, technical
assistance and education, and quality assurance for the Child Passenger
Safety program. The Child Passenger Safety Coordinator will work
directly with other state agencies and community partners to deliver the
program. This position is a great opportunity for a candidate passionate
about child passenger safety, injury prevention, and public health.

-Prefer a currently certified CPST, Tech Proxy or Instructor but we will
train the right person.\
The candidate must be able to become a Certified Child Passenger Safety
technician within 4 months of starting. The candidate must become a
Child Passenger Safety technician instructor within 18 months of
starting the role.Candidate must be comfortable with driving a large
trailer (8000pounds).\
Act as a state child passenger safety (CPS) subject matter expert\
Serve as a source of expert information for the program and related
activities.\
Liaison to AHS and AOT as well as with other departmental, agency and
community partners in developing strategies, guidelines and
recommendations for highway safety/ child passenger safety initiatives.\
Coordinate and manage a network of approximately 200-225 volunteers
and affiliated organizations carrying out the mission of the Child
Passenger Safety Program.\
-Provides certification and recertification guidance and assistance.
Actively works to maintain a vibrant number of Child Passenger Safety
Technicians\
-Connect members of the public on related injury prevention and child
passenger safety resources, including trainings, child passenger safety
technicians, assistance stations and low-income program car seats\
-Support and mentor new child passenger safety technicians, tech proxies
and instructors as needed\
-Develop and implement program communications and public messaging plan
including delivering the Vermont CPS newsletter, other bulletins,
website updates, program material, social media and other program
outreach efforts working with community partners.\
-Lead the coordination and implementation of all training related to
Child Passenger Safety in the State of Vermont.\
Able to become comfortable driving a program SUV and tow the18\'
enclosed Program trailer as needed
Environmental Factors
Duties are performed in both a standard office and field settings.
Private means of transportation must be available for required travel.
Stress may be anticipated in dealing with emotional situations involving
application of programs, especially in dealing with families and in the
allocation of program resources.
