Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $32.00 - $32.00. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

Summer Nurse Extern Program

Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking to hire college students for the summer of 2025 to work in the In-Patient Acute Care areas as part of the Summer Nursing Externship Program. The 2025 Nursing Externship will run for 8 weeks, starting June 2nd, 2025, and is exclusive to students currently enrolled in an accredited, four year, Bachelors of Science Nursing (BSN) program that have completed their Junior year as of May 2025.

In your role as a Nurse Extern, you will become part of our Magnet patient care delivery workforce. You will gain meaningful patient care experiences throughout this time. The first week of the program, Externs will go through a through classroom orientation. For the remainder of the Externship Program, Externs will rotate through patient care roles and responsibilities. These roles include patient transport, patient care assistants (providing direct patient care, assisting with activities of daily living), and nursing responsibilities. Each Extern will be paired with an RN on the unit to work a set number of shifts with, to gain insight to the RN roles and responsibilities. You will be provided with 3 nursing education classes throughout your 8-week experience with the office of Professional Development.

Applicant Minimum Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing in a four year BSN program
Completed junior year as of May 2025
Completed 1 clinical rotation or provide evidence of clinical time in simulation lab
3.5 GPA or above
Heart Saver/BLS certified through the American Heart Association
