What is an Engineering Technician - Cathodic Protection?
Central Hudson is seeking an Engineering Technician - Cathodic Protection to join the Gas and Mechanical Engineering team. An Engineering Technician - Cathodic Protection under direction, performs annual corrosion testing as well as oversees cathodic prevention system installations for Central Hudson's transmission and distribution natural gas systems and facilities; performs in depth corrosion troubleshooting of Central Hudson's natural gas assets; and performs related duties as assigned within the integrity management department.
What does an Engineering Technician - Cathodic Protection do?
Plans and oversees installations and maintains corrosion-prevention systems, such as cathodic protection and protective coatings for natural gas pipelines
Reviews detailed designs for corrosion prevention systems
Inspects Transmission and Distribution pipelines and facilities on a regular basis as part of the corrosion prevention program
Inspects, troubleshoots, and maintains rectifiers and critical bond
Collects, compiles, and analyzes data from corrosion prevention test stations to determine the need for maintenance, repair and/or replacement
Diagnoses, troubleshoots, adjusts and repairs corrosion prevention and testing devices, equipment and systems
Researches and reviews recommendations regarding interior and exterior protective coatings for pipelines and related facilities
Conducts complex, technical soil sample analyses on capital improvement, construction, and repair projects
Coordinates the use of consultants to review and evaluate corrosion control parameters of pipelines and flow control facilities; performs pipeline condition assessments and service life analysis
Participates in the programmatic inspection of the transmission pipeline system
Participates in company training as required
Supports storm/emergency restoration efforts
What does it take to be an Engineering Technician - Cathodic Protection?
Required:
Associate's degree in a STEM related field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) In lieu of an Associates Degree, 10 years of gas utility/pipeline experience and industry-specific certifications/credentials will be considered
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Strong analytical, organizational, and quantitative skills
Excellent problem-solving skills with innovation in mind
Flexibility to multitask and operate in a fast-paced environment
Must perform all tasks safely and design with safety in mind
Possess the necessary physical abilities to walk multiple miles and be on feet daily with exposure to various environmental factors for the Hudson Valley region
Valid driver's license
Preferred:
Field of study in engineering or related field
AMPP Cathodic Protection Technician Certification (CP2) or higher
Continuing education through AMPP approved course work
Knowledge of and/or experience in the electric and gas utility industry
