Electrical Engineer (Substation Design)
Design:
Site Selection and Planning: Determining the optimal location for a substation, considering factors like land availability, environmental impact, and access.
Electrical Design: Designing the electrical layout, including busbar arrangements, transformer configurations, and protection and control systems.
Civil and Structural Design: Designing the foundations, structures, and site layout, including grading, drainage, and fencing.
Equipment Selection and Specification: Choosing the appropriate transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, and other equipment based on voltage levels, load requirements, and safety standards.
Project Management:
Project Planning and Scheduling: Developing a comprehensive project plan, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
Construction Management: Overseeing the construction of the substation, ensuring that it meets design specifications and safety standards.
Commissioning and Testing: Performing commissioning tests to ensure that the substation is operating correctly and safely before it is put into service.
Protection and Control:
Fault Studies: Analyzing potential faults in the grid and designing protection systems to isolate and clear them quickly.
Relay Coordination: Coordinating the settings of protective relays to ensure that they operate correctly and efficiently.
Control System Design: Designing the control systems that allow operators to monitor and control the substation remotely.
SCADA and Communication:
SCADA System Design: Designing the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system that allows operators to monitor and control the substation remotely.
Communication Network Design: Designing the communication network that allows the substation to communicate with other parts of the grid.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
0.5-3+ years of substation design/engineering, P&C or relevant utility industry experience.
Understanding of electrical engineering principles and concepts.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges and technologies.
Ability to operate with minimal red-tape and restrictions compared to working directly for a utility.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
