About the Department
The Center for Effective Government (CEG), founded in 2019 at the Harris
School of Public Policy, is dedicated to advancing democratic
institutions and enhancing governmental problem-solving capabilities
through rigorous research, critical debate, and public engagement.
Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Assistant Director
will be a critical operational leader responsible for managing the
administrative, financial, and communications infrastructure of the
Center for Effective Government. This role requires a detail-oriented
professional who can seamlessly support the Center\'s research and
outreach mission through strategic operational management.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and manage the
Center\'s annual budget.
Support with preparationandmaintaining ofcomprehensive financial
reportsandgrant-related financial tracking and reporting.
Support grant application processes and financial compliance.
Administer the Center\'s research grant and funding initiatives.
Manage the annual Request for Proposals (RFP) process.
Coordinate grant award processes, including:
Soliciting proposals.
Facilitating award transfers.
Managing stewardship and reporting.
Support research staff in financial and administrative aspects of
their projects.
Develop and implement comprehensive communications strategies.
Manage all external communications, including:
Monthly newsletter development and distribution.
Social media content creation and management.
Website content updates.
Track and report on communication metrics.
Create promotional campaigns for research outputs.
Monitor and compile media mentions of Center research and personnel.
Provide administrative support to the Executive Director.
Manage office logistics, including:
Space and workstation assignments.
Onboarding of research staff, interns, and visitors.
Coordination with university departments.
Support event planning and execution.
Manage vendor relationships and contracts.
Assist with hiring processes for research assistants and other
personnel.
Coordinate research workshops, conferences, and public events.
Provide logistical and technical support for Center events.
Develop event marketing strategies.
Manage event registration and attendee communications.
Liaise with speakers and external partners.
Uses moderate/solid understanding and experience to administer the
delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries.
Sets and communicates program priorities and performance standards
and assesses operations using these criteria. Plans and conducts
quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.
Has moderate/high levels of interactions with faculty, researchers
and staff for committee work or information.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related
field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5
years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Certifications:
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor\'s degree in public policy,political science, social
policy,business administration, communications, or related field.
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in research institute or academic
administrative roles.
Experience in higher education or policy research environments.
Grant management experience.
Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
Knowledge of academic research administration processes.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
Strong financial management and budgeting capabilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Working Conditions
Some travel may be required for events and conferences.
