Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join our Business Insights team on a contract basis. You will work closely with a dynamic team of data professionals, including Data Scientists, ML DevOps Engineers, and Quantitative Analysts, to provide data-driven insights that support decision-making within the rail transportation industry. This role focuses on developing models to optimize operations, improve predictive maintenance, and support key business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement machine learning models to address business problems, including predictive maintenance, lease pricing, and component failure.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, design solutions, and present actionable insights.
- Analyze large, complex datasets to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for operational improvements.
- Support ongoing projects related to predictive analytics, such as rail component IoT data, lease rates, and operational forecasting.
- Deploy models in production using MLOps tools and ensure they are scalable, reliable, and delivering real-time insights.
- Communicate findings through reports, dashboards, and presentations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Skills And Requirements
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Proven experience with machine learning techniques, such as supervised and unsupervised learning, clustering, and regression models.
- Proficiency in Python, R, STATA, SAS, or similar data science programming languages.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and MLOps tools for model deployment and monitoring.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a passion for data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills to present complex insights to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in the transportation or manufacturing industry.
- Familiarity with IoT data integration and analysis.
- Experience working with large datasets, especially in SQL or cloud environments. null
