Hybrid Electrical Engineer Opportunity in Glastonbury, CT
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer (Power) to support engineering activities for power plants. The ideal candidate will have over 6 years of experience in power generation, electrical system design, and equipment maintenance. This role involves working closely with plant operations, maintenance teams, and project engineers to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of electrical power systems.
Responsibilities
Provide engineering support for power generation equipment, including generators, transformers, switchgear, and protective relays.
Perform electrical system analysis, short circuit, relay coordination, and arc flash studies.
Assist in the design, modification, and upgrade of power plant electrical systems.
Evaluate and troubleshoot electrical issues in power plants, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
Support preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to ensure system reliability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, operations, and maintenance personnel.
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, IEEE, and NEC, and local regulations.
Participate in power plant commissioning, testing, and startup activities.
Develop and review technical documentation, including single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and equipment specifications.
Provide technical guidance for procurement and selection of electrical equipment.
Work with SCADA, DCS, and power plant control systems to optimize performance.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure electrical safety measures are in place.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
6+ years of experience in power plant engineering, power generation, or electrical power systems.
Strong knowledge of high-voltage (HV), medium-voltage (MV), and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems.
Experience with power system studies using software like ETAP, SKM, or similar tools.
Familiarity with protective relays, switchgear, transformers, and generators.
Knowledge of grid interconnection, load flow, and system stability analysis.
Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems in power plants.
Strong understanding of codes and standards (IEEE, NEC, NFPA 70E, NERC, etc.).
Hands-on experience in testing and commissioning electrical systems.
Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar tools for electrical design.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of Gas, or Steam Turbines is a big plus.
EIT license or eligibility preferred.
Experience with renewable energy integration into power plants.
Experience with Gas Turbine and Data Centers, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and microgrid technologies is preferred.
Understanding of SCADA/DCS control systems in power generation.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
