Universal Construction, a fast-growing general contractor, based in NYC is currently seeking a hardworking, highly motivated, self-starter Bookkeeper/Junior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Junior Accountant will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of Finance department and will be reporting directly to the Controller.
Universal has been in business for over 20 years and has completed several projects for various public clients including Schools, Community Centers, Apartment Complex, Libraries, Parking Structures and Recreational Facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions
- Prepare weekly payroll in-house for union employees
- Process new hire and verify accuracy of data and correct setup of taxes and deductions.
- Obtain and enter daily timesheets and process payroll checks for union employees on weekly basis
- Maintain union records along with monthly reporting
- Preparation and submission of Certified Payroll
- Remit information and/or payment to various federal, state, union trusts and private agencies
- Track, maintain & remit payment for deductions.
- Issue purchase orders for material and supplies while ensuring proper coding
- Review & enter all incoming bills & invoices in a timely manner and match invoices to purchase orders
- Work with project managers on authorization of payments for vendors and subcontractors and prepare disbursements
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies with vendors and subcontractors
- Obtain, review and track insurance policies and certificates
- Liaise with project team to ensure timely and accurate submission of monthly requisitions
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Implement, monitor, and improve internal controls and processes
- Oversite, and preparation of annual audits which include and are not limited to: insurance audits, and associated union audits
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in accounting preferred
- 2-5 years’ experience in construction industry preferred
- Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload to produce desired results
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Maintain confidentiality of all company information
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency especially with pivot tables and VLOOKUPS
- Experience with Sage CRE 300 accounting software preferred
- Salary commensurate with experience
