Function:
This position has administrative responsibility for coordination of
complex academic program elements requiring collaboration with students,
faculty, and other departments and programs to foster student success.
Department Overview:
The Sociology Department is a dynamic, engaging, social justice focused
department. Our 10 faculty
create and support three academic majors (Sociology, Social Sciences and
Ethnic Studies), five
minors, student research center, student activist organizations, and
general education courses. Our
courses, programs and research address a broad range of topics, from
family dynamics to social
inequalities and cultural beliefs. Sociology employs scientific
methods-such as surveys, interviews
and content analysis-to investigate and test hypotheses.
Level Scope:
Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within
defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.
Professional who applies acquired knowledge, skills, and experiences,
various policies, and complex procedures to engage in and complete
assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity in support
of the success of the department students, faculty and associated
communities. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level
professionals and/or support employees.
Essential Functions:
60% of Time the Academic Programs Coordinator must:
Provides administrative support
Facilitates the delivery of required program services.
Maintain students files/records.
Analyzes data, generates and/or assists with, and disseminates periodic
reports (monthly and semester).
May provide support to student groups.
May oversee the work of less experienced employees or students.
May independently manage specific program activities.
Planning and executing assigned projects and operations within the
specified department
35% of Time the Academic Programs Coordinator must:
Support and assist department faculty members, the College of Arts and
Sciences Advising Office and relevant university departments with
academic advising and student success efforts.
Coordinates planning and execution of community building and educational
department activities, recruitment and retention events, including
Gender Studies
Facilitates travel, purchases, budget tracking, hiring procedures in
support of grant and research activity and course implementation
Foster a welcoming environment in the office
5% of Time additional duties as assigned and agreed upon.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Ability to work independently and use reference manuals to develop
proficiency with operational systems and processes.
Good organizational, written and verbal communication skills in the
preparation and presentation of results.
Good interpersonal skills with particular attention to inclusion and
multicultural awareness and competencies
Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with
concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills
and efficiency.
Creative problem solving
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor\'s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent
relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Successful experience working with and interacting directly with
students
Demonstration and commitment to listening, identifying and supporting
student, faculty and staff needs related to the department
Demonstration multicultural awareness and competencies
Experience with software management systems (e.g. Bronco HUB,
PeopleSoft) Salary and Benefit
s:
Salary starts at \$47,320.00 annually and is commensurate with
experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits
