EDM Operator and Machinist operates, maintains, and repairs EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) equipment used to modify the internal and external surfaces of diamond wheels and other diamond tooling to precise specifications.
Functions
Reviews work orders and blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequencing of operations, and setup requirements.
Measures, marks and inscribes dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces.
Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures.
Dresses wheels using either preset or manual dressing tools.
Initiates the feed device and monitors the EDM process, estimating the necessary machining time.
Sets the controls to adjust depth of wheel cut, angle between work piece and EDM machine, and feed rate.
Removes and inspects finished work pieces to ensure compliance with specifications using measuring instruments such as preset gauges, calipers, micrometers, and loads testing equipment.
Requisitions supplies and/or equipment, assigns storage space, and oversees usage of materials to reduce waste.
Performs maintenance and repairs on departmental machinery, replacing worn parts using hand tools.
Completes production records accurately.
Consistently meets production quotas with less than 3% scrap.
Possesses the experience and skills to make real-time adjustments to meet final dimensional requirements.
Meets goals assigned by the Plant Manager and Production Supervisor, and maintains work quality in accordance with established standards.
Follows all safety protocols and wears required PPE.
Performs additional duties as assigned by Management.
Competencies
Above-average mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Proficient in reading blueprints.
Mathematical skills (including geometry and trigonometry).
Able to read and interpret technical documents and perform metric conversions.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a non-exempt, full-time position (40 hours per week):
1st shift: 7:00 am-3:30 pm
