GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general and limited supervision, perform a wide variety of custodial maintenance duties in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment in public buildings. Performs cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance of assigned space.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position exercises no supervision over other employees.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Sweep and mop floors, vacuum.
Dust and clean offices and other work areas.
Collect and remove waste.
Clean and restock restrooms.
Strip and wax floors.
Move or lift furniture, boxes, and other materials.
Open and close the facility for use and secure the facility for closing.
Operate carpet extractor machine and buffers to polish floors.
Daily operate a City vehicle or personal vehicle to travel between City facilities in order to complete assigned work.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Tools, chemicals, materials, methods, and best practices used in custodial operations.
Occupational hazards and safety precautions of custodial operations.
Proper use and care of a variety of tools, materials, and equipment common to custodial operations.
Skill to:
Operate a variety of custodial equipment including vacuum cleaner, carpet machine, and buffer.
Ability to:
Maintain a schedule of cleaning and work with a minimum of supervision.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels arerequired at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Experience
:
Six (6) months of experience in custodial work is preferred.
Education/Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is preferred.
Any Janitorial certification, training, or relevant certification/training is preferred.
License or Certificate:
A current valid Texas drivers license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is preferred.
Special Requirements:
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
May be required to obtain CJIS Security Awareness Certificate (Level 1 for Police or Airport).
May be required to complete and pass a Fingerprint-Based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC for Police or Airport).
May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, or other non-traditional schedules.
Exposure to noise, outdoors, vibration, and confining workspaces.
Exposure to chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards.
