The candidate would be responsible for project managing New Work Certification and Follow-Up Service related projects for the wire and cable business. Heavy customer interaction is involved and would include email communications, teams calls, as well as phone calls. Strong communication and collaboration skills are critical. Customer interactions may be face to face at the Melville site, as well as at customer facilities, as needed. Strong organizational skills are required with the candidate expected to work independently, self- manage and prioritize projects based on the estimated completion dates provided to our customers. The candidate would also support our sales function in the preparation of technical quotes to our customers. The candidate may also be called upon to support the lab function with training of newly hired technicians. The candidate would also be required to work with customers on the resolution of follow up sample testing non conformances identified as part of the UL's mark integrity program. The candidate may also be asked to participate in special developmental projects, lean operational efficiency projects and finally principal engineer related technical projects to continue their UL and technical development journey. Travel is estimated to be less than 10% of time and some of this travel may include visits to customers manufacturing facilities to perform factory with test services.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week onsite in Melville, NY.
Determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.
Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements.
Acts to address client concerns and to resolve client issues.
Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements.
Examines samples for compliance with UL requirements and notifies client of any areas in which the product is not in compliance or of any changes in project scope or specifications.
Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians, scheduling and reviewing work of laboratory technicians and engineering assistants and establishing completion dates.
Coordinates administrative aspects of project management.
May serve as Project Handler of record and/or Reviewer of record as assigned.
Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.
Assists in the development of UL requirements.
Assists in developing special test methods and test equipment.
Analyzes test program for adequacy and sequence.
May coordinate and/or perform File Reviews, as directed.
May represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars and trade shown. Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
Performs other duties as directed.
University degree in Engineering required. Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.
Strong electrical knowledge.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Strong communication skills. Ability to interact with customers.
Attention to detail and organizational skills.
What we offer:

The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000-80,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
