GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)
The Electrical Designer provides safe, "Best for Project" solutions for complex projects, while ensuring accuracy for all engineering deliverables. The Electrical Designer is responsible for collaborating with other disciplines and team members in developing safe and effective designs. This includes participation in model and drawing reviews as necessary to ensure that systems will perform as intended. The Electrical Designer is expected to have a firm understanding of Electrical systems and a general knowledge of pertinent codes and standards and their application to the work performed. The Electrical Designer collaborates with project delivery as appropriate and ensures quality checks of the work and ensures continuous improvement of standards, toolboxes, and workflows.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation
Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department
Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by appropriate design and use of technology
Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behavior while incorporating safety into the designs produced by the group
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This description lists the core responsibilities and duties of the position. Additional duties deemed to be within the incumbent's capabilities, on an as required basis, might be assigned by management.
3D Design and drafting for permanent and temporary works related to Cementation business
Design drawings consist of, but not limited to: power distribution single line diagrams, control and instrumentation systems, lighting, cable tray layouts and grounding
Research design criteria for: electrical distribution equipment, lighting fixtures, etc.
Work within a project team to coordinate and complete designs
Be accountable for drawing production and quality
Adhere to Cementation engineering and design standards
Collaborate with Engineers to establish how drawings will be laid out to ensure that the engineering requirements will be adequately conveyed
Contribute to the maintenance and development of departmental standards as assigned, ensuring conformance with current codes, standards, and regulations
Participate in Design Reviews, ensuring that regulatory, safety and Client operability requirements are met, and collaborating with Operations to ensure that the design will be built in the safest, most efficient and cost-effective manner possible
Other duties as assigned
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position has the requirement for occasional travel to project sites, offices, and/or to conduct shop reviews
Travel period may range from one day to several weeks and may include overseas assignments
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Applicable post-secondary education such as a 2-3 year college diploma in Design Technology
Certificate of Completion from an authorized Autodesk Training Center (ATC) accredited program beneficial
Experience in discipline specific design for underground mining or heavy industrial infrastructure is preferred
Experience with design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks
2 to 8 years of relevant experience
