Job Summary
Supervise the field line work normally done by the transmission line crew in construction, maintenance and operation of transmission lines and stations. Plan and schedule work assuring a safe and efficient flow of activities including the request for system clearances and outages. Lead crews in a manner that is supportive of and consistent with the cultural pillars and the AEP Leadership framework. Assure all work will be performed in accordance with Company safety rules and practices.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supervise line crews in the construction, maintenance and operation of transmission lines assuring safe work rules and practices are being followed.
Assure the proper and safe use of tools and equipment, and the safety, welfare and training of personnel assigned.
Procure materials, tools and equipment as required.Comply with practices, policies and standards of the Company that apply to transmission line work.
Maintain good relations with employees and the safety to the public in regard to Company facilities and operations.Understand and apply the provisions of the Management Information and Policy Manual; labor contracts, employee handbook and applicable employee handbook supplements.
Attend supervisory, site visit, and work scheduling meetings as required.
Maintain contacts between assigned functions and other respective parts of the Company. Keep immediate supervisor advised on activities and make and maintain records and reports as required.
Perform the duties of a Transmission Line Mechanic-A as required.Make effective recommendations for employment, promotion, discipline and discharge of personnel assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education requirements are listed below:High School graduate or GED.
Work Experience requirement listed below:Must have sufficient knowledge and skill to perform the duties listed above. Possess thorough knowledge of line construction and maintenance activities that are gained through experience such as Transmission Line Mechanic A.This experience would typically be attained with 5 years of construction or maintenance and operation of transmission lines. Demonstrated Leadership skills and abilities are preferred.
REQUIREMENTS - PHYSICAL DEMANDS: physical demands required for this job include but not limited to:
1) Exposure to environmental conditions such as weather, hazardous conditions, and uneven terrain
2) Working at heights and climbing structures
3) Ability to operate vehicles, heavy equipment, and mechanized devices
4) Occasional lift up to 100 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 pounds
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
A physical abilities assessment is required for this position.Must have a good working knowledge of transmission line safety rules and practices and be proficient in the application of resuscitation and first aid. Must have good working knowledge of transmission circuitry.Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license. Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
Must have a good working knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used. Must have a good working knowledge of the Company's transmission and distribution standards. Must possess the ability to deal with employees, customers and the general public in a courteous and proper manner. Considerable travel and overtime may be required with this position.

$46.21-60.07 USD
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H - Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
