Job Description
We are seeking a Process Safety Engineer who will be responsible for organizing and maintaining process safety information documentation, coordinating process hazard analyses, and developing recommendations to address process safety issues identified during risk analyses. This role also involves managing the pre-start-up safety review process, coordinating inspections to ensure mechanical integrity of process equipment, and reporting on process safety performance. The ideal candidate will have experience in process safety management, risk assessment in manufacturing, and the ability to coach and train others on process safety requirements.
Responsibilities
Organize and maintain process safety information documentation
Coordinate initial process hazard analyses (PHA) and periodic updates
Develop recommendations for addressing process safety issues identified during risk analysis
Develop local written procedures to ensure program implementation
Manage the pre-start-up safety review (PSSR) process during plant launch and ongoing operations
Coordinate inspections to ensure mechanical integrity of process equipment
Report on process safety performance to leadership and joint venture partners
Conduct post-incident and near-miss investigations related to process safety
Track key performance metrics and use statistics to identify opportunities to improve performance
Ensure an effective Management of Change (MOC) process and maintain documentation
Build good working relationships with regulatory agencies
Support other safety, environment, and fire protection activities as needed
Conduct routine audits of the PSM processes and drive corrective actions to completion
Coordinate external audits and ensure corrective actions are completed
Coach and train other employees and the plant leadership team about process safety requirements
Provide process safety expertise to support emergency preparedness

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety management, industrial hygiene, or similar field with acceptable experience
Three years of experience in a process safety role in manufacturing, chemical process, or refinery operations
Experience and in-depth knowledge of the OSHA Process Safety Management standard
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or pursuing certification (preferred)
Work experience at a lithium battery manufacturing facility or similar operations (preferred)
Experience implementing process safety at a startup plant (preferred)
Experience as PHA facilitator or scribe (preferred)
Experience and knowledge of mechanical equipment and maintenance procedures (preferred)
Work Environment
The work environment is a climate-controlled processing and assembly facility. This position offers a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a key member of the start-up team, launching the facility from the ground up. You will play a crucial role in the transformation of the electric vehicle (EV) battery business, contributing to the development of state-of-the-art battery manufacturing facilities in Kentucky and Tennessee.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
