Job Description
Essential Job Functions & Tasks
Assists with the planning and scheduling of all maintenance for company barges.
Oversees and manages all barge maintenance to ensure completeness of work performed.
Attends shipyards and keeps up to date on barge repair updates, cost changes and schedule of repairs.
Provides updates on barge repair updates, cost changes, and schedule of repairs to management.
Assists with the development of budgets and schedules, contractor selection, quality assurance, contract management, interfacing with regulatory agencies, design groups and shipyards.
Assists in the development of specifications and bid packages, participate in the evaluation of bid packages and monitor repairs when carrying out repair activities.
Assists with the implementation of the safety program to ensure that all company barges are maintained to ensure a safe working environment.
Responsible for adherence to company policies and procedures with respect to accident and/or accident reporting.
Responsible for the direct implementation of preventative maintenance programs for company barges.
Participates in scheduled visits to inspect barges on a regular basis to ensure that the barges are maintained to company standards. Completes barge inspection reports each visit and includes in barge inspection files.
Participates and performs weekend duty rotation, as assigned.
Assists with projects, as assigned.
Responsible for ethical conduct at all times and with all dealings with shipyards, suppliers, and vendors.
Performs all other duties as required.
Participate in the drug testing program, as required.
Assists with crew changes and vessel maintenance, as required
Basic Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a combination of high school diploma/GED and industry related experience.
Experience:
The Barge Inspector must possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in barge/vessel maintenance and repair.
Expert knowledge of the inland river industry as well as a thorough understanding of barge/vessel maintenance and operations.
A willingness to work additional time to keep barges operating safely and reliably.
Occasional travel is required.
On call is required.

SP20-007
Compensation Range:
$85,081.00-106,352.50 USD
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M - Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
