Electric Substation Technician I, Electric Distribution
Annual Salary Range: $36,103.86 - $43,324.63 Grade: 21
The City of Alexandria is seeking professional individuals to begin a career in the Electric Distribution Department, located in the heart of Central Louisianaperform skilled work to inspect, test and repair various operating systems within the distribution, transmission and substation systems of the electric system, and to perform general and detailed maintenance tasks in the care of the substation grounds.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates, repairs, and performs general and comprehensive maintenance of electric substations; inspects equipment; checks fluid levels; replaces fluids; greases equipment; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment to supervisor.
Tests, adjusts and performs maintenance of major highway lighting and surveillance camera systems.
Operates and maintains SCADA system
Performs grounds keeping tasks in the maintenance of electric substations: mows grass, trims edges, sprays chemicals to remove vegetation, removes trash, etc.
Operates test equipment including cable fault locator, cable tester, oil tester, and relay test set; operates related equipment and tools including a bucket truck, track hoe, oil pump, fork lift, wire puller, oil filter press, fault locator, pressure sprayer, relays, and various hand and electrical tools.
Handles, prepares and/or maintains the appropriate paperwork necessary to the functions of this position:receives and/or reviews diagnostic reports, maintenance reports, electrical system data, structural drawings, relay timing charts, etc.; prepares work orders, maintenance data, and purchase orders.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical electrical training; supplemented by one (1) year of commercial or industrial electrical experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
.Must possess a valid drivers license.Will be required to obtain and maintain a valid State of Louisiana drivers license at time of appointment
.Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class B commercial drivers license within six (6) months of hire.
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week including shift work, some overtime per departmental needs, weekend and, holiday
