Definition
Under general supervision, is responsible for repairing and installing electric meters and devices used to record current consumption; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work

Installs, repairs, and tests single and poly-phase meters and wiring to consumer establishments, street light controllers, or solar fields, according to established code;
Tests meters for accuracy during installation for quality assurance, for routine annual inspections, or in response to consumer complaints;
Investigates irregular metering usage or improper metering construction and ensures resolution of problems;
Detects power distribution concerns utilizing metering data and, if needed, collaborates with supervisor to implement the solution or to make recommendations for resolution;
Calibrates meters, programs registers, and reads load profile data using computers; utilizes a variety of software programs to customize smart meters according to the parameters of the installation;
Installs and removes current and potential transformers related to metering devices; prepares transformer cabinets with metering devices prior to deployment;
Tests for specified voltage, phase, and polarity on meters, current transformers, and potential transformers;
Disconnects consumer service at the meter on request or default in payment of account;
Records meter reading before connecting or after disconnecting service, submitting report to supervisor;
Maintains accurate records of job status and materials used by entering data on a computer terminal;
Drives a vehicle to and from job sites;
Installs recording voltage and current meters to troubleshoot complaints.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of the twelfth school grade and two (2) years of experience in any phase of electrical work. Substitution: Successful completion of a formal classroom or vocational training program related to electricity, power metering, or power distribution OR twelve (12) semester hours (eighteen (18) quarter hours) of coursework related to the field of electricity from an accredited college may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list, and willreplacethe names on the current list. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.
The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam weighted 100% covering Electrical Practices and Principles, Meter Reading, Map Reading, Information Ordering, Work Safety, and Reading Comprehension.
The exam is expected to be administered in May. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
