The Electrical Engineer serves as the lead electrical engineer (with oversight from a Senior
Electrical Engineer) on projects from concept through construction administration. Performs
calculations, design efforts, develops construction documents, and delegates tasks to designers.
Reviews submittals, responds to RFIs and works through construction issues with contractors in
the field.
Essential Functions:
Performs site visits and reviews existing documentation.
Prepares project narratives and studies.
Develops electrical concepts for projects.
Leads design discussions and carries design concept through to project drawings.
Performs code analysis and conducts other important engineering research as necessary.
Designs electrical systems for construction drawings including details, plans, sections, and
elevations in accordance with firm standards and guidelines.
Disseminates tasks to junior electrical staff.
Performs engineering related calculations related to electrical scope items.
Selects electrical equipment.
Prepares/edits project specifications and cost estimates.
Coordinates with other engineering and architectural trades during design.
Develops construction documents in AutoCAD and Revit.
Participates in developing details, equipment schedules and specifications.
Recognizes, analyzes, and makes timely, critical, and cost-effective decisions.
Administers projects in construction phase including conformance to contract documents;
solves problems; evaluates and monitors change requests.
Responds to client questions and concerns in a timely and thorough manner.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years experience with an engineering consulting firm designing power
distribution, lighting/lighting controls, fire alarm systems and other specialty systems for a
variety of building @types is required.
Working knowledge of Building Code of NYS, Fire Code of NYS, NFPA 72 and National
Electric Code is required.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit is required.
Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred but not required.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
