Job Summary & Objectives
The Accounting Specialist will have the opportunity to develop expertise in Partnership Accounting, Tax, and Fund Administration within a dynamic and fast-paced professional services environment. This role supports the Senior Tax Associate and Fund Accountant, offering direct ownership of critical workpapers that underpin Partnership Accounting. We are looking for a self-starter who can manage multiple responsibilities while proactively identifying ways to improve processes. A strong desire to learn new technologies and optimize accounting workflows is a plus.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Partnership Accounting Execution
- Responsible for maintaining and reconciling key workpapers related to partner distributions and capital accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare journal entries related to partner distributions, partner taxes, and other partnership accounting activities.
- Assist in generating and reviewing Excel-based partner reporting, including distribution and capital accounts statements.
- Monitor bank transactions, troubleshoot returned wires, and liaise with banking partners to resolve issues.
- Support financial modeling efforts, leveraging advanced Excel functions such as XLookup and PivotTables to analyze partner accounting trends.
Tax Support
- Prepare workpapers for U.S. tax filings, including partnership, and state-specific tax returns (e.g., gross receipts, sales, and commercial rent taxes).
- Reconcile and track tax payments in the AP system, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
- Assist in responding to tax audits and inquiries, gathering necessary documentation and coordinating with internal teams.
Fund Administration Support
- Prepare and process capital calls and distributions, ensuring compliance with fund requirements.
- Monitor and maintain fund cash balances, updating reconciliation files as needed.
- Assist in preparing financial statements and supporting audit documentation for investment partnerships.
- Maintain organized records of fund notices, statements, and compliance documentation.
Education
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Skills and Experience
Required
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in partnership accounting, tax, or fund administration.
- Advanced Excel skills (XLookup, Sumif, PivotTables); ability to create efficient workpapers and financial models.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Elite 3E, QuickBooks, or similar).
- Strong attention to detail with a track record of producing high-quality, accurate work.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and work with various levels of management.
- Strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
PREFERRED
- Law firm experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with Elite 3E financial system is a plus.
- Macro-writing proficiency in Excel is a plus.
- Familiarity with QuickBooks (Desktop & Online) is an advantage.
Salary Information
NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000 at the time of posting.
The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
