Under director of the Library Director, this position is responsible for
the full range of circulation desk functions and operations. This
includes services to patrons and supervisory responsibilities as related
to circulation and to the care and maintenance of the collections, and
performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
Greets visitors to library. Provides exemplary customer service.
Provides reference and readers advisory services, instructs and
assists patrons in the use of library resources, including reference
materials, catalog, computer, and the interlibrary loan system.
Responds to patron suggestions, questions and complaints about
service and the collection and refers appropriate questions to
administration.
Assists patrons with a variety of technical issues including
information on patron-owned and library-owned computers, devices &
equipment.
Monitors library to assure safe, clean, and adequate library
environment for patrons.
Collects and counts money daily, balances daily cash receipting.
Performs accurate library shelving by regularly shelf-reading and
reshelving of materials.
Carries out procedures for notification of overdue library
materials, including telephone calls, & record keeping.
Prepares or provides for the preparation of statistical and other
reports regarding library operations and use.
Using automation system, performs technical processes & reports.
Perform maintenance and copy cataloging processes using MARC
records.
Supervises circulation procedures and trains staff.
Interprets library policies for the public.
Assists in developing and recommending policies and procedures to
improve operations.
Manages assigned staff consistent with delegated responsibilities
performing tasks such as meeting assignments, training and directing
circulation staff in library policies, procedures, standards and
services.
Continuously develops a strong knowledge of the library collection
and materials, its strengths and weaknesses and how to find items
using the best access methods, particularly in areas of expertise.
Provides support with library program preparation and
implementation, as directed.
Prepares materials to promote use of library.
Answers telephones and provides information or refers and transfers
calls.
Perform database maintenance and entry as necessary.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Work in other areas as assigned.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this library environment job, the
employee will be continually moving, standing, walking, bending,
squatting, use of stairs, and reaching in multiple directions (up to 90%
of the shift). Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor while
dealing with customer behaviors such as children crying or teenage
activities.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that
must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential
functions of this job. While performing the duties of the job, the
employee is regularly required to walk, move, stand, sit, bend, twist,
talk and hear to attend to customers and children. The employee must
also stoop or squat to locate and read spine labels for materials
shelved at floor level, and reach, read, and lift materials in multiple
directions and levels, including overhead. The employee is required to
regularly input data and to read information from computer monitors. The
employee must regularly lift or move library materials and periodically
lift and move boxes of books, copy paper boxes, or file boxes weighing
40 lbs.
Position Type / Expect Hours of Work
This is a part-time position. Shifts usually range from 4 to 7 hours per
day, 4 to 5 days per week. Shifts include some mornings, some evenings,
and some Saturdays. Hours of operation are 9:30am to 7:00pm and vary
Monday through Saturday. Periodically employees are asked to attend
special meetings which usually last 1 to 2 hours.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some
out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
A high school diploma or the equivalent and one year of library clerical
experience.
