Overview
The responsibilities of this role include performing all Senior level billing transactions required including, but not limited to, submission to funders, preparation of budgets vs. actuals, monitoring payments and collections for their contracts, & working directly with the audit team during their contract audits.
In addition, the Senior Grant Accountant will identify, communicate and implement process improvement opportunities to enhance reports, provide efficiencies in the management reporting process.
To be successful in this position, the employee should possess an ability to analyze different types of information and be able to communicate the results to senior management. A self-motivated, detailed oriented mindset to ensure accuracy of data is a critical part of this position. The Senior Grant Accountant will display technical and functional competence to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all billing and reporting. The Employee should gain a general understanding of funding/ grants not assigned to the degree which helps managing the success of grants assigned.
The ideal candidate will have an ability to think critically/analytically, maintain a strong attention to detail, possess excellent communication skills, have an inquisitive nature, be self-motivated, and proficient using Excel and PowerPoint, and financial forecasting and modeling.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual reports to funder. This includes invoices, financials statements, and other supporting documentation related to the reports that are requested;
- Compiles all information required to support the preparation and submission of monthly invoices for each contract.
- Manage spending of various grant awards to ensure that all grant expenditures are reasonable, allocable and allowable according to all federal, state and local regulations.
- Assist with the grants closeout process by identifying potential grants for close-out and analyzing General Ledger balances. Prepares fiscal and contract year-end financial reports for all contract locations.
- Prepares/reviews reports to help manage unbilled charges.
- Identify opportunities to automate and standardize processes and effectively challenge how data is reported through analysis and explanation of business driver’s.
- Improve reporting proficiency and seek ways to reduce cycle time.
- Assist with funder and annual audits for grants assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with a focus on general ledger accounting.
- Proficient in QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills; experience with financial auditing is a plus.
- Strong understanding of financial concepts, balance sheet reconciliation, and technical accounting principles.
- Knowledge of private equity financing structures is desirable but not mandatory.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data effectively.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively across departments.
